Barbara Bach, who starred in the James Bond film 'The Spy Who Loved Me', was photographed in a garden in Rome. I wanted to avoid shooting in a studio, but at the same time have a background that was placeless. The garden itself offered no decent background, but I needed privacy for the glamour shots that I wanted to take. Attempting these in the street would have caused a riot. It took some time to clear empty bottles and rubbish to create the picture area with a simple background, and it was helped by the strong backlight.
The hatless photograph, above, in fact had a wire fence in the background that I could do little about, except work at an aperture of f5.6 on a 300mm lens with a speed setting of 1/250 second. The photograph with the hat, below in, was taken on an 85mm lens, also at f5.6 at 1/250 second.
